Fast, attentive care for acute illnesses
When sudden health issues arise, we understand you want to relieve them as soon as possible. At Plantagenet Medical, our GPs strive for rapid, effective treatment, but more than that, we look beyond the symptoms of acute illnesses to understand and treat the underlying causes and prevent future complications. Our expert team uses state-of-the-art diagnostic tools and draws on decades of medical experience to efficiently diagnose health issues and ensure you receive the best possible care — care that’s tailored to you.

FAQs
How quickly can I be seen by a GP for an acute illness?
The best way to get a same-day appointment is to call as soon as the phones open at 8.30am. If we have no open appointments, you will be offered a triage call with one of our experienced practice nurses, who will be able to help to manage your issue.
What should I bring to my appointment for an acute illness?
Can you give me a medical certificate for work?
If your employer requires a medical certificate, please mention this when booking your appointment, and, if appropriate, your GP will provide one during your visit.
Can I visit a GP to get a medical prescription or refill?
If you only need a prescription or refill for your usual medication*, ask for a “script clinic appointment”. We will book you in for a quick consult with one of our doctors, often by phone, and we can send the script electronically to your preferred pharmacy or your mobile phone. You can also choose to collect the paper script from the surgery.
*some medications are not safe to be prescribed in our quick script clinic appointments. Please check with our friendly admin staff on booking if you need a prescription for a sleeping pill, strong pain killer or “authority” medication.
Is my acute illness appointment bulk billed?
Standard appointments are bulk billed for children under 16 years old and concession card holders. This is due to the extra Federal government rebates subsidising the cost of their appointments. There is also no out of pocket cost for standard appointments for DVA gold card holders, or DVA white card holders if the appointment relates to one of their covered conditions.
Unfortunately, the federal government does not currently subsidise anywhere close to a full private fee for other patients, and there will be an out of pocket gap charged on top of the Medicare rebate. If you have concerns about your ability to pay, please chat to our admin team on booking.
If Medicare doesn’t, will my health insurance cover my appointment?
Coverage depends on your specific health insurance plan. Please contact your insurance provider to confirm what is and isn’t covered.
